The Story Behind Ballykilcavan

The story of Ballykilcavan Brewery is deeply rooted in the long history of our family farm. Ballykilcavan Farm has been the home of our family for 13 generations. We have lived and worked here since 1639, and diversification has always been important to keep our farm viable for future generations. When I took over the farm from my father in 2004, my motivation was to ensure Ballykilcavan could be sustained so that it could eventually be passed on again.

After farming at Ballykilcavan for 10 years, it became clear that simply growing barley would not provide the long-term security we were looking for. We began looking at alternatives, and the development of the brewery and visitor experience are our attempt to keep the farm in the family.
